The Indonesian archipelago is home to many tropical island gems that are just waiting to be explored. Rote Island is one of these notable island jewels. Rote Island is located in the East Nusa Tenggara region of Indonesia, just south of West-Timor. Its remote location allows for the preservation of its incredible landscapes and shorelines.
In this article, we’ll be taking a closer look at 4 notable beaches to visit on your holiday on Rote Island.
Nemberala Beach
Located on the western edge of Rote Island is Nemberala Beach. You’ll find pristine white sands, turquoise blue waters and tropical palm trees - perfect for those afternoons when you just want to ease your mind and listen to the waves with a cold drink in your hand. Aside from the picturesque landscapes, Nemberala Beach features a magnificent white church just off the beach. Sunsets in Nemberala Beach are some of the best on the island, don’t miss it!
Nemberala also has one of the best surfing waves in Indonesia called T-Land or Besialu as the locals call it.
Bo’a Beach
Just 20 min south of Nemberala Beach is the southernmost beach on Rote Island, Bo’a Beach. This beach is lined with tropical pandana trees, silky white sands, and crystal-clear waters. Surfers will also love this beach due to the amazing waves they can catch here. Usually, if the wind in Nemberala is off-shore it will be on-shore here in Bo’a.
Loedi Beach
About 25 min south-east of Nemberala you will find Loedi Beach. This beach is also commonly referred to as the Kite Beach, where on any given day you can see kite surfers zipping up and down the lagoon. Additionally, the reefs here break the waves further out on the ocean, and coupled with the extra powdery white sand, Loedi Beach makes for an excellent place to go out for a swim.
Oeseli Beach
Oeseli Beach is located on the south-east coast of Rote Island about 20 min from Nemberala Beach. A landmark feature of this beach is the heart-shaped coral rock formation in a saltwater lake next to Oeseli Beach, making this a popular honeymoon spot for couples and lovers. Oeseli Beach is also a perfectly instagramable location for your holiday on Rote.
We hope this article has been useful for planning your holiday on Rote Island. There are plenty more beaches for you to explore, but these four should definitely make the list in your itinerary!
